I may be stretching it just a tad. I feel much better, but I may not be doing as well physically as I am mentally.
For about three weeks (since just before my surgery), I have been trying to get the big travel trailer moved from in front of our house to the storage facility, but with no results. The one remaining company truck is in Roscoe with no insurance on it, so I was trying to get KO or Pepa to get one of their trucks by for a thirty minute job.
Last night Pepa called and told me that Mario was going to be through Abilene today sometime, So, I spent part of my morning readying the big trailer. I had already rolled all the cords, raised all the stabilizers, and drained the water reservoir. So today, I put a few items back in the trailer and filled the water reservoir with fresh water, looked for some allergy medication for Krl, and last but not least, set off two "foggers".
Shortly before Mario arrived, I was in the house and Krl told me to sit down and rest, that I was "white as a sheet". After a brief respite, Mario called to tell me he was lost, just a short distance from our house. I gave him his bearings and as he began making his way toward the house I made my way outside. In just a handful of minutes he was hooked up and headed out. I picked up all the "scotch blocks", put them in my pickup and headed out. We arrived at the storage facility and in about fifteen minutes we had lowered the landing gear and unhooked the big trailer. I escorted Mario back to the security gate and coded him out, then I went back to finish storing the trailer.
By the time I was through, I was wasted. My energy level and stamina are almost non-existent.
As I drove into our driveway, I called Pepa to tell him I had paid Mario for helping me out. I appreciated the help, but not enough to let him double dip by collecting from me and turning in a manifest too!
I made it in the house and sat down in my chair with a big Diet Coke!
Shortly my phone rang and it was Memama. She wanted to know if Pepa had told me that Uncle Douglas had died in the early hours of today. He hadn't, so she gave me a brief idea of the itinerary. She is speculating that his funeral will be Friday. Jerry will be driving from Albuquerque, Jack from Amarillo, Donna from Lubbock, Danny from Lake Brownwood, and of course Mike is the only one who lives in Sweetwater. Memama said that Anna is doing very well considering.
Many years ago, Douglas suffered a stroke, and for the last few years he has required around the clock care. At one point he was admitted to a nursing home, but about a year and a half ago Anna took him home.
Before I did the trailer project I had been looking and reading on the internet. One of the search engine home page headlines read "What is next for Chelsea Clinton after the campaign trail?" I clicked on it and went to a video. Some newscasters were talking about the poise that the twenty-eight year old had exhibited on the campaign trail. They played a tape of a speech Chelsea made the day before her mother suspended her campaign. I was amazed with how much she sounded like Hillary! She told the reporters that she had a job (for a hedge fund in Manhattan), she had an apartment, and she had her yorkie dog. In short, she has a life outside of politics. Of course there is speculation that at some point she will mount a bid for a congressional seat.
When I went back into the living room where Krl was at, she asked me what Hillary was saying! Hah!
I've got a job for next week. Rian called and asked me to write Reid and Holt while they are at camp next week. Their family is accompanying the Greenlawn Youth to Sacramento, New Mexico. Rian said the boys always love to get any mail, but especially at camp!
Now I will try to determine how long it takes a letter to go from here to there!
Hope you had a day!
FATHER, I pray for Anna Joyce and her family, that YOU will comfort them in their loss. I ask for safe travel for those driving in for Douglas's service.
