This past Sunday in Sunday School, Terry, our sponsoring elder in the class told us of an interesting gathering during the week prior. He told us of a gathering of seventy or eighty men, elders and church leaders from various churches across town who gathered on the twentieth floor of the Musgrave Tower. Once there they were divided into eight groups. There were eight stations placed around the perimeter overlooking every section of town. One station was directed to the south and Hendrick Home for Children, Ben Richey Boy's Ranch and Abilene Regional Hospital could be seen. Other stations could see McMurry, Hardin-Simmons, ACU, Dyess, High Schools, Middle Schools, Elementary Schools, churches, businesses and an abundance of family dwellings. These men spent a couple of hours rotating from station to station praying for those in each area.
Powerful.
I really love Southern Hills Church new marquee sign. Of late they have had a message advertising an upcoming day of prayer and the immediate next screen flashes the statement "We want to pray for you." The sign is located on Buffalo Gap. High impact area due to traffic. High impact message.
Terry told us the story of an Elders meeting at Highland following the January accident which took the life of one Highland youth and seriously injured several others. He told us that at that meeting many of the Elders from Southern Hills came to pray over and with the Elders from Highland.
I think I like what is going on in our community. Reaching out, crossing over lines of preferences, caring, loving, ministering.
I am thankful for these devout men.
Be the real deal!
