I almost quit my job this morning. Lying in bed snuggled up with Krl was almost too inviting! You know, that idealistic thought that you can live on love.

Wow, what a day, what a day! I left the house Independence Day morning to run one errand and pickup enough ice to get us through the day. I had also forgotten buttermilk for making the zucchini stick batter. On my way I ran to the Post Office, I hadn't been there in a week, and then I called to see if Kat wanted to come over early. She did so I zipped by and got her.

When we got home I commissioned her to wake Meme up, there was much to do. We got it in gear. First of all we iced down the watermelons along with the soft drinks, then we got all the veggies out of the fridge. Krl and Kat got started shucking and silking corn on the cob while I got busy slicing zucchini and getting the awesome blossoms ready. Krl had put a two hour cushion in our time, she had told Trc that we would do the thing at two in the afternoon figuring that if they stayed true to form it would be closer to four. Smart woman I married! By the time they arrived the only thing left cooking was a rack of babyback ribs and the only thing going on inside the house was the ice cream freezer.

I had gotten so tickled at Kat, she had asked me if we had found an ice cream freezer and I said yes. She would then ask what does an ice cream maker look like, and I would point at Meme. She got so frustrated until her Meme told her in plain English that she (Meme) was the ice cream maker but she would make it in the ice cream freezer. Kat also got put out with me because she wanted us to make banana split ice cream. It took all afternoon to finally convince her that the Blue Bell banana split is only a flavor, not actually "a banana split". Her Meme, who used to work at a soda fountain had to go through the entire banana split process. I finally told Kat if it would make her happy I would split a banana and put the ice cream freezer in the middle!
Kat's first cup of ice cream was doctored up with add ons but when she came back for seconds, she told Meme, "That is just too good to cover up the taste!"

Probably the wisest choice made was acquiring the turkey fryer. It got all the heat from cooking out of the house. I was able to do all the zucchini sticks in one batch while tending to the burgers and hot dogs on the adjacent pit. The only thing I was a little disappointed in were the awesome blossoms. I used the vidalia batter mix with buttermilk and for some reason it just didn't stay on to well. O.K., they were ugly but they sure tasted good! Krl and I had all the meal supplies sitting on the kitchen counter earlier in the day and I made a call and said put half of it up. She looked a little funny but we did half of what we thought we needed to do and we had two hot dogs, four burgers, and three ribs left over along with a handfull of zucchini sticks and a good portion of homemade potato salad. There was also just enough ice cream left to entice Kat to come over later in the week!

One neat thing, with my connections through the job and the tie to our core customer, I new that Fresca was being re-released so Krl and I had been watching for it. We got a twelve pack and had it iced down and it was a big hit with all the grandbabies (I can call them grandbabies because the teenagers don't read my blog). It was a throwback to the sixties when Gan Gan and & would take a break and sip that cool citrus flavored Fresca under the shade of the trees in front of the old farmstead. Precious memories then, and new ones now!

FATHER, thank YOU for the tremendous weekend and holiday! Thank YOU for the renewal and recharge. Thank YOU for the special time and the special memories from it. FATHER I continue to ask YOU to strike down the infidels, humble them. FATHER I continue to ask YOUR gifts of healing for Krl. I pray for all those near and dear who are in need of YOUR miracle of healing. I pray for those sad with grief. I pray for our spiritual family and our leaders. I pray for the efforts to expand YOUR kingdom. Thank YOU LORD, for loving me.
