I read a couple of on-line articles yesterday that really make me wonder.
One involved a professional football player who has boycotted the majority of training camp wanting to renegotiate his contract because he is only making 2.2 Million dollars this year. He also alleges that the team mis-diagnosed a hip injury he had surgery on earlier this summer. Of course he also has suffered muscle pulls and strains since he did report for camp. The latest development was that the team left the unhappy player at home when they traveled to play an exhibition game.
The other article was titled "The Rich get Poorer" with a sub title of "How one millionaire lost 96 Million dollars of his net worth. The article stated that the rich lose a greater percentage of their wealth in a recession than middle class. Duh! It stands to reason they have more to lose. It doesn't mean they suffer as much as middle class.
The big story was about John McAffee. A few years ago he was worth 100 Million. Today he is worth 4 Million. This is the McAffee. The anti-virus McAffee. In the 1980's he developed the antivirus software and gave it away, charging only if a subscriber wanted technical support. After a few years he said he became bored and cashed in, to the tune of $100 Million. He invested in real estate and the stock and bond market. He says he never anticipated the real estate market and the stock and bond market to crater at the same time. While real estate is down, it was a lot better than the Lehman Brothers bonds that became worthless after they tanked. He had a property in Colorado with a view of Pikes Peak that he spent $25 Million to buy the land and build a house. Recently he sold it for 5.7 Million. His property in Hawaii sold for a fraction of what he had in it. There is a picture of John on his property in Southwest New Mexico that he bought and developed for people who fly experimental fixed wing aircraft that require no license to pilot. He also bought several vintage automobiles for his guests to use. This property will be auctioned off in the coming days. He says he needs the money to pay his bills. He has sold his ten seat Cessna airplane and now flies coach. His plan is to move to a South American country with more favorable tax laws.
Excesses.
If I had it, I wouldn't waste it!
I would be remiss in my writing if I didn't address "The house that Jerry built!" As you sports fans know. Cowboy stadium made its athletic debut Friday night. The big stink is that the Titan punter kicked the ball and hit the scoreboard. Jerry claims it was intentional and he won't move the scoreboard. One interesting thing about the new stadium is that it is the world's largest free standing room (meaning it has no support columns).
And last but not least, Happy birthday Rian. #32. Wow! Hope it is a good one.
Have a day!
FATHER, thank YOU for the blessings we enjoy. We lift up Rian for YOUR blessings as we celebrate his birthday and ask that YOU bless him with many more. Love lifted me.
