Hooray!! Both Kat programs won to play again today. The Lady Kats play tonight in the State Championship game for their division! The boys play this afternoon for the regional championship and a trip to Austin for next weekend's boys state championship tournament.
Pretty impressive.
The girls play Nazareth. Nazareth is making their twenty-second appearance in the State tournament, and they have won the gold on seventeen of those occasions.
I have wondered how our BearKat parent friends have dealt with the boys and girls playing simultaneously Friday night in two different locations. Some families have members playing on both teams. I'm willing to bet the race is on when the boys get through this afternoon in Fort Worth. I would love to see how cool and composed some of my friends from the seasonal jobsite are at these games. I bet they are off the wall, and they have a right to be!
Go "Kats"!
Krl was a cleaning whirlwind today! I am sooo afraid she was over doing it. She got in her wheel chair and rolled about dusting and windexing, then she got the dust mop. I guess it would be easier if I put a hitch on the back of her chair and she could just roll around! Just kidding. We did odd and end stuff most of the day. My biggest accomplishment was repairing the mechanism on our trash can. Krl told me I needed to wash the inner liner on the trash can so while I had it out doing that I decided to see why the foot pedal wasn't working. An hour and some farm smarts later it was working. I didn't use baling wire but that was probably because I didn't have it.
I finally got out and ran some errands. It was a glorious day. Cool, crisp, and bright! We talked with Addison, actually her Meme talked to her to wish her a Happy Birthday! The big eight. Happy Birthday Addie!
I have been making some observations lately and I'm getting mad. I take offense that marketing and advertising gurus think I'm dumb. I walk down the aisles at the grocery store and see declarations "New lower price!". Bunk! They have reduced the price minimally while reducing the size substantially. The size I have always purchased is no long available. Now you have too small, and too large, and I'm in the market for just right. Don't insult me.
I am becoming an omelet expert, and most mornings an omelet is Krl's choice for breakfast. Usually we split a three egg omelet. We began talking about what size eggs restaurants use when they advertise their omelets as "three egg". Yesterday I whipped out a ham and cheese omelet with toast and jelly. I had already cooked the ham and had it sliced and diced. Krl told me I turned out the order in six minutes! This short order cook is getting shorter!
I'm kind of getting in a cooking mood and I'm not sure what I want to cook. I am willing to bet it is Mexican food! Krl and I have been discussing menus lately. I am beginning to run out of ideas. I offered to fix flat enchiladas last evening but she declined, saying they are too much trouble. I agree, but they sure are good.
We were discussing how helpless Lrn, Ln, and Kat are. Their mother does it all for them. Cooking, cleaning, laundry. We have asked Trc what is going to happen when they get married or out on their own. She just says it isn't worth the trouble to get them to help out. Hey, I think that is part of the process. Use to Ln loved to come over and help cook. Kat likes to work with Meme in the kitchen too. Of course they all love Meme and Dandy meals. I think they get tired of fast food and eating out!
Krl and I were talking about growing up and neither of us really were taught how to cook. But we were observant. My first cooking escapade was popcorn for after school snacks. This was prior to microwaves and popcorn didn't come in a bag unless you were at a ballgame or the movie. It required technique. A skillet with lid, a small amount of oil, just the right amount of popcorn, and a durable stove. You had to shake it to keep the early poppers from burning while the remainder was popping! My earliest meal preparation was a pregame meal when I was in about seventh grade. I can't recall where Mom was at, but she left good instructions. Probably my most formative years were while I was in college. We were only allowed popcorn poppers in our dorm room but we were pretty innovative with a single heat setting popcorn popper. We cooked anything from chili dogs to chicken fried steak with gravy and potatoes. I used to love it when we could walk across the street to Agnew's grocery and buy a single egg. I was rooming with a friend from Cherokee who kept us stocked with fresh meat. Probably the best thing we ever did was circumvent the rules by getting an electric skillet that had a popcorn heat setting listed on the thermostat control. I can remember the dorm supervisor having to make the ruling allowing us to keep it! I've come a long way as a cook!
During some of my middle of the night activities, either I have run across a television channel which programs old vintage programs or I'm in the twilight zone. I have laughed until I'm sore. I Love Lucy, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, Leave it to Beaver, Father Know Best. They don't make 'em like that any more.
When I was in college we would often wait for the rush in the student center and bean to pass by gathering in our dorm room and watching television. Our room was very popular because of it's proximity to the dorm lobby and the cable television that passed by our room. We discovered a floor resident who had never seen The Little Rascals. He would come down to watch the Rascals, everyone else came to watch him! Spanky, Alfalfa and the rest of the gang were a real hoot!
I'm trying to figure out what programs from today's programing will be vintage shows years down the road. Hhhmm.
Well, let's get 'er done!
FATHER, you don't make bad days. Help us to submit to YOUR will.
