How 'bout them boys?"
I don't think those "boys" had playing football on their minds. Why would Parcells want to come back?
I was elated with the Colts. Peyton had a bad game, but salvaged enough of it to take charge and win. I liked what Jim Mora said, that Peyton had matured as a player and "took" what K.C. was willing to give them and that Peyton displayed how selfless he is.
I think I would like to see Mora coach the Dolphins. Actually it was kind of like an audition/infomercial yesterday with him doing analysis.
I cannot believe how many job openings there are in the NFL, and they aren't done yet. There could be possibly two more.
Saturday at our house involved a lot of that! We sat a lot! Mid-afternoon Krl and I got out, went to the post office, ran a couple of errands, picked up a dab of stuff and ended up at Chili's for our date. Krl traveled incognito and left her pink pj's at home.
We were laughing and talking. I asked her where we would be if we were at the jobsite. Her answer was Midland! That wasn't wrong, but it wasn't totally right either. I told her we would have been sitting in On the Border. For this past season it was probably our favorite stop. Bring us a Borderita and one of their appetizers and we were happy campers. Funny thing is we really don't like the main entrees, but we can make a meal out of the samplers. I began doing a comparison between the chains we frequent in both locales. We prefer Chili's, Fazolli's, Rosa's and Logan's in Midland. We prefer Abuello's, Texas Road House, and Denny's in Abilene. Best Pizza in the world is Pizza Pro located in the IGA at Stanton! Best breakfast burrito's are Jumburitto in Midland. It would be a kinder gentler world if there were more Cattle Baron's and Lytle Land & Cattle Company's.
Back to our date. Krl ordered an appetizer. I really didn't want it but felt obligated to help her eat it. She wanted portabella fajitas. I ordered club tacos. Her meal arrived and it was cold. When they re-delivered it, there was no doubt it was hot! Our little waiter was pretty good. He tried, and that means a lot. He had another guy helping deliver food and the helper was a jerk. When Krl's plate came back out, the manager delivered it, apologizing, she told him the helper needed a reprimand and he asked who it was. She gave him a description and will probably go in for a line up today or tomorrow! Hey if you don't want to work it isn't our problem, figure it out!
When I was around Sweetwater and Roscoe Friday, I had a brief visit with Fred but it was full of interesting conversation. For the most part, the demise of the family business has never been discussed, just kind of picked at around the edges. That is a trait my Mom has passed on to all of us. If you don't acknowledge it, it isn't real or it will go away! Thing is, it was very real and it hasn't and won't go away. Fred and I even laughed and talked about a "do-over". He told me he could write his down at that very moment. I told him I thought it would require several do-overs. He agreed, it might be too much for a single.
I think I have come to the realization that I can deal with the family business failing. I have a real problem with what it has done to the family.
Well, I give up. I have waited and waited, listened to all the hype about BCS Championship, but I am burned out! Cancel the game. Name them co-champs. Let the record show the "Gatoreyes" (Gators and Buckeyes) as National Champs! There is no wonder that there isn't a college playoff. I read that ABC paid 300M for the Rose Bowl for eight years. The only one of the four major bowls that doesn't pay to be included in the BCS program is the Rose Bowl. The Orange, Fiesta, and Sugar pay 6M each to be in the mix. Fox paid 320M for the remainder of the BCS package for four years. The article made the statement that the lead advocate against a playoff is the commissioner of the Big 10, Jim Delany. He and his cohorts will agree that a playoff would increase revenues 50M annually, but these men don't want to risk losing control of the knife that slices the $$$$ pie. In fact Delany has all but made a personal guarantee that the Rose Bowl would never have to host an inferior draw like Boise State. ????? Personally I thought Boise State was a breath of fresh air. As long as you have people pulling the strings in the background, you will always have the haves and the have nots. Level the field!
My final thoughts, they have made college sports into big business so let's complete the circle. Compensate these athletes for their contributions, and kick the fat hogs away from the trough!
BCS reminds me of the "Expo Center" group in Abilene. All about us.
Have a day!
FATHER, may we be all about YOU.
