We passed eighty thousand bales early yesterday.
Everyone is in a tremendous mood. Eager anticipation is the order of the day as the end looms nearer and nearer. Speculation is we will clear the module yards either late on Saturday the twenty-ninth or in the early hours of Sunday the thirtieth. The plant Super would like to keep both crews for three or four days to do the heavy cleaning but it appears that all the seasonal help is loading belongings and pointing their vehicles toward the road. Its is going to look like a mass exodus when the plant coasts to a stop. Many of these guys are even saying "Just mail my check".
Production had been off for the past week but last evening we began a big run of really good cotton. It put the crew over their bogey for the twenty-four hour period. My truckers had become a little bored and complacent, just muddling through the days. It had not been a problem to keep up because of the lower production. Needless to say they did not anticipate the good run yesterday and into last evening.
I spent part of my morning visiting with the GM and Plant Superintendent about the new machinery they have recently ordered. The board of Directors voted to spend about three-hundred-fifty thousand dollars to up grade their module feeder and to install new drying/cleaning equipment. The co-op here is one of the healthier cooperatives in the state and this year marks the final payment on their high capacity plant. The large crop year with the vast weather extremes brought out what improvements needed to be made to keep the plant on the leading edge of the industry.
FATHER I continue to ask YOU to carry me through. I pray for continued safety and continued productivity. I pray for those needing YOUR healing. I pray for those needing YOUR presence. Fill us with YOUR goodness.
