I spoke too soon. Before I got to Lubbock yesterday I received a call telling me the first driver who became ill was down again.
When I turned in my motel key I had told the manager if I returned and begged for my key to not give it to me. They didn't do as I told them, and I checked back in.
Prior to leaving Lubbock to return to Brownfield/Loop I went by Rian and Erica's and left the card/gift for Moses, his birthday cake complete with "Let My People Go" inscribed on top, and a box of Christmas cookies from the United Bakery.
Moses had to take the cake to church to share.
If he fed the entire assembly we may have to change his name to Jesus.
So, I drove a truck again yesterday afternoon, and again today. I got the call just about six thirty. I was two drivers down.
K.O. and I began working on a long term plan that would allow me to go home. (K.O. wants me to work for him at Anson on Sunday). A plan was put in motion to cycle the two bale drivers out, but that won't happen until Monday. D.O. requested a new room for the new drivers.
And Christmas plans for gin "down time" are being made and checking them twice. The gin is shutting down at seven in the evening on the twenty-third and will resume at seven in the evening on the twenty-sixth.
Already drivers are jockeying to put the screws to the other drivers. What Christmas spirit.
I am ready to return to Abilene! Next time I may bring more touches of Abilene to make my time away more endurable.
Maybe tomorrow.
Have a day!
FATHER, heal us quickly, heal us completely.
