I know you're getting tired of this. So am I. But I can't let it go by without mention. The big cheese at Home Depot is out. A mutual decision, at least that's what they decided through negotiations. His severance package includes $210M. Supposedly, stock holders were unhappy with his compensation and poor stock performance.
Nick Saban. Uh huh. You know I couldn't "not" touch this one. I like Nick. I think he is a good coach. Eight years, 36M with incentives that could add as much as 800K annually. I don't think he is that good. It is alarming that he has moved so consistently in his career. Is he lured by the dollars or by the challenge. Does he move on if a challenge proves to be too big? Supposedly one of the Alabama criteria was finding someone who would be loyal to Alabama. My first thought is what has Alabama done to deserve that loyalty. If I remember correctly, a year ago Alabama was still in love with Coach Shula.
I didn't want to influence the search committee so I hadn't said anything, but I will now. I would have taken the job for half that. I am not fluent with "Roll Tide", but I can learn. We do use Tide when we do laundry, but it comes in a box. See, I already had ties.
I don't think they should even play ball games any more. I think the coaches should submit game plans and offensive and defensive schemes, a committee will look over them and a winner will be announced. The tie breaker would be the total payroll for the coaching staff. The bigger number wins.
Think about how much money could be saved on flights, facilities, and scholarship amenities.
It wouldn't make for a very good bowl season.
I think only one of "my" teams has won during bowl season. It didn't take me the whole game to lose interest in the Sugar Bowl last night. I'm not a Notre Dame fan but I find myself pulling for them because they are the under dog. I like Charlie Weis. I think he is a football genius. I was hopeful for Brady Quinn in his final "Irish" game. I was disappointed.
The National Championship game looms ahead. To be honest, I just can't get into this game. I don't like either team. Oh well, I can look forward to half time.
I have got to get things in gear. I am needing a software update that we had picked up the last few years from Staples. It has to be upgraded annually as it is tax related. We had gotten where we frequented Staples in Midland after we tried the chains we were familiar with and either we didn't like the stores there or the personnel. Now we find ourselves in a position where we don't have a Staples nearby. In fact, I don't know where the closest one is. I may have to go on-line to shop. It would sure save a lot of data entry if we can just upgrade.
Have a day.
FATHER, reign in me.
