That was definitely a Monday.

It should have come with a warning label. Protective gear required. Medication recommended. Something! Murphy's Law at its best (or in this case its worst).

The day started nicely enough. I think that was to distract or give a false sense of security. When it began to have glitches, they came in threes is seemed. The major one's included two trucks going down with mechanical issues (one completed half its schedule, the other turned back) the third glitch involved a truck on a far west, deep south run. The third truck was in the badlands of Texas between Van Horn and El Paso and blew a tire, put the spare on and it was bad, luckily the driver was able to limp into Sierra Blanca and found a place that had a tire and was able to put it on. The big issue then was whether or not he could make his delivery before receiving closed for the day. When I left the office only one of the three was on the road again. One was in the fleet shop and the other was in another shop awaiting parts.

KO was in a mood. The thrill of victory which became frustration at the problematic "can" contract, has now triggered some anger. Compound this with the fact that through a third party, we know what the other side's negotiator knows, even though he doesn't know what we know. Know what I mean? This gentleman is the one who made the deal, brought the contracts, went over and signed them and then the following morning notified us that he was withdrawing them. Yesterday this same gentleman called on another matter and in the course of the conversation was asked "what was happening on the "can" matter" and he was less than honest in his response. That makes me uneasy, to be dealing with someone who moves so easily between fact and fiction. We did some tracking and it would appear that this may be his mode of operation.

I had one of my fall co-workers call me. He was wanting to know if I could help him find a driver for one of his trucks. I made the call yesterday to a guy who worked on site last year but has since lost his ride, the truck owner has decided to sell his equipment. The man I called is retired, but likes to do some seasonal work and he did do a good job. We are supposed to talk later on.

The owner of a company I work with in the fall has scheduled a meeting. Equipment requirements are the hot topic. I have tried to put together not a wish list, but a list of required action. We are also going to discuss a proposal of a construction project on site which could prove to be a long term commitment for all involved parties.

Today marks the end of an era. Officially, I will be out of farming. Due to a lot of contributing factors, a substitute trustee will sell off the land. The final tie will be severed. Sad. But relieved. Hopefully the beginning of the end. The opening of a new door.

Well, "Git 'er done!"
