Sunday, the weekend is almost over. Rats!
I plan to make the most of it. Church, SS, home, Nascar at Indy!
I took yesterday off. I ran three errands, but that was it. It was really nice.
This morning I woke early and was watching some mindless TV until it cycled out and Friday Night Lights came on. It has been a while since I had last seen it. In fact one of the DVD's that was stolen when the company travel trailer was broken into was Friday Night Lights.
It makes me want to reassess our values. This movie portrays a community who's identity is tied to its success on the football field. "Damn" everything else. The drinking, the girls, the permissiveness. All considered to be necessary evils for the ultimate common goal. What is wrong with this picture.
Of course it is evident that "Boobie" Miles came full circle and was forced to see himself without football. A very sobering eye opener. For many of these young men football was an escape from harsh homes, a dirty West Texas oil town and an avenue to launch into the bigger world.
Due to my scheduling, I believe I have attended six high school football games since 1995. I have kin who are coaches, I have kin who are athletes. I think sports are good, as long as they remain in perspective.
One of my Bible professors at ACU once stated that if he had to describe Christianity in a single word, that word would be moderation. I'm not going to agree or disagree, that is a whole other can of worms.
I would say that maybe a general rule, for sports, for living, might very well be that same moderation.
FATHER, we thank YOU for the gifts YOU have blessed us with. Help us to always use them to their very utmost and help us not to be jealous of others or their gifts and successes. Help us to strive for the ultimate common good, YOUR good, and let us always be mindful that we are a small but important part of YOUR plan. May our lives glorify YOU. FATHER, I continue to thank YOU for Krl and ask for her healing and care. I pray for Addie, Memama, Pepa, Hag, B., Lillie, Aimee, Jennifer, Ashlyn Kate, Jess, Dr. Mackie, Jeanine, Verlin, and S.T., I ask for their care and healing. I pray for BA and CA as they are traveling abroad this week, watch over and keep them. I pray for those who are sad with loss, comfort them. I pray for those of us struggling as we try to follow YOU. I pray for our spiritual family and our leaders. I pray for the efforts to expand YOUR kingdom. Restore unto me the joy of my salvation!
