Today has been a crazy crazy day! I left the trailer at close to seven this morning and I have just returned for the first time all day. If it wasn't a problem with my forklift, it was the gin's forklift, if it wasn't one of my trucks it was one of the lease operators. I have bounced back and forth across the compound all the day long! Finally I am in the trailer to try to do settlements!
The board of directors closed the little plant yesterday. The head ginner finally had all he could take of the crew and he turned in his keys and fuel card and hit the road. Now all the insubordinate flunkies, who made his work miserable, find themselves unemployed! What goes around comes around! It is a real shame because the head ginner is quite a nice guy. He retired out here after thirty-three years and it was only after much talk that he had agreed to return for a swan song. It is also a shame because I look at all the dollars that have been spent gearing up for it to run. If I had not had to move my hands from the barracks, I would not have bought Krl's and my new RV, not forgetting the replacement pump for the gin was almost ten thousand dollars. Oh, well. Now all the efforts are being centered on the big plant.
Once the small plant was moth balled, I found myself with a surplus of trucks and one extra forklift operator. It was really bothering me that I was going to have to terminate someone. Miracles happen! The way things worked, we had a driver involved in a traffic accident Thursday night in Lamesa, (luckily no one was seriously injured) his truck remains out of service at the present, I have one temp truck that will cycle out with the maintenance Sunday and then we should be like the three bears and be just right! The one situation that bothered me most was Roy. He had been a late addition to our crew but is a very likeable young man. He is sharp and realized the predicament I was in and even told me if I needed to send him home, he understood. This didn't make things any easier. Today I went to the GM and told him I still had one good employee that I was fixing to have to terminate, we talked for a few minutes as I outlined Roy's abilities. Before I left the office, Roy had a job working for the GM.
December 18, Happy anniversary Mom and Dad! Fifty-four years I think.
We have a full day lined up for tomorrow. Forklifts must be serviced, trucks need service as well. Hopefully we will get to make a trek to town to pick up some gifts for the office people out here and maybe, just maybe, a stop at Abuelo's!
Thank YOU for it all FATHER. I pray for those near and dear and far away. Work YOUR plan.
