Wow. Just when it seems that people aren't any good, something will happen that will change your mind.
After a very busy week, we joined forces with a couple of major players from corporate America. We are very small peons by comparison. One major corporation had contacted our core customer and made arrangements to purchase twenty truck loads (approx 2 million bottles) of bottled water to be shipped to the hurricane disaster area. The core customer wanted to know if we were interested in assisting in getting it down there. We committed for transporting a minimum of five loads with KO's fleet. Of our entire group of drivers, only three were not interested in helping out. And this was after a bust butt week. Add to this the fact that this was a volunteer effort. None of the pricing has been completed. The major corporation placed the order and our core customer is planning to discount it and hopefully there will be compensation for fuel. Early this morning a group of our guys were rolling out headed for Louisiana. In addition to this we got a call wanting us to run empty cans from Abilene to Irving Sunday afternoon. Due to the need, a competitor of our core customer has procured cans to be shipped to Irving and be filled and sealed with drinking water. Lots of opportunities to give aid.
We have a good group of guys. Some of them may gripe and complain at times but when asked about assisting with this relief effort, the guys didn't hesitate. KO and I had already made plans to make the trek down to Louisiana in the trucks of the drivers who didn't want to participate. As it turned out, we had to pick and choose and KO and I ended up without vehicles or loads. That makes me very proud of the company and of our guys. Bill, Jerry, Clinton, Randy, James, Rick, Ralph, and Frank, be safe and GOD speed.
Lots of other activity on the fringes. Kenny recently got his helicopter certification. Thursday night he flew to Canada and picked up a new helicopter for his new employer Million Air. Story was he was flying directly to New Orleans to join in the work there. This is a change for him from flying corporate jets. Its a little scary because when I had a pilot's certificate they disliked airplane pilots training for helicopters or vice versa, saying that in many instances technique is almost opposite.
It would appear that Kali's spouse has been chasing cars, or at least barking at them. I can't really believe he could be attractive to anyone and it can't be his personality, or charm. He is a couch potato, can't get enough "rasslin'" on TV. Worst part is when Kali confronted him he became very angry and told her to get her and Addie's stuff and get out, he didn't want anything to do with either of them. Needless to say it shattered a six year olds world. I have tried to tell Kali that she doesn't need to make any decisions right now. She doesn't have to decide anything until she sorts it all out. Right now she is angry and hurt. She is going to have to assess her situation and her options. She has a very good job, if the situation continues to go down hill there would be child support as well. It will work out. I speak from my own experience. It isn't fun, it isn't pretty but it was the best thing that ever happened to me. You just have to decide to build from that point, not tear down. Kali and Addie are spending the weekend in Angelo.
I suppose we will try to enjoy the three day weekend. If things permit we will do the lawn. If I stay true to form, Monday morning I will get up early and go to the fleet shop. I need to work of the S-10 and then get started working on Trc's truck. Not a whole lot of big stuff just a lot of little things. Many of them will simply be cosmetic. Biggest improvement will be swapping out the bumper. Trc told me to treat it like it is mine. I may try to trade the tall tires from it for low pro twenty-four-fives. I think that could be a really good choice. Give up a little speed, improve power and match fifth wheel height with the other trucks. Sounds good to me.
I'm taking treats to Sunday School tomorrow. I figure this will be the last opportunity before I leave for the fall work.
Have a good weekend! Be the real deal!
